New Venusians is a seven-piece modern soul band from Sydney, Australia. Essentially a super-group made up of the city's finest touring/session musicians & singers, who perform with the likes of Sampa The Great, Chet Faker, Ngaiire, and countless other of the country's top touring acts - for their self-titled debut album, the Venusians take things into their own hands, writing & producing for themselves as a group for the first time. The group's two lead singers bring both a female (Meklit Kibret) and male (Christian Hemara) perspective to the album's themes of falling in and out both hope & love. Their duets are backed by slick jazz guitars, rumbling thick basslines, and hard-knocking "wall-of-sound" style drums for a sound that's neither "retro" nor "futuristic" - but instead something completely New in between.
