The New Wave legends from Düsseldorf around Meikel Clauss aka Micky Matschkopf are back with new, deeply black material! After briefly rocking the Ratinger Hof with KFC in 1980, NICHTS with singer Andrea M. and two successful albums characterised the scene between punk, new wave and NDW in the early eighties. The single hit `Radio', `Licht Aus' and of course the timeless Top 20 success and club classic `Tango 2000' are part of German music history. A third album was released in 1983 without Clauss, who preferred to bring Belfegore to life, but reanimated the band in 2009 and released the album `Zeichen Auf Sturm' (vocals: Sabine K.) with a new line-up via Unique/Electriqie Mud in 2011. Since then, Nichts have played live, released deluxe editions of the three 80s albums, returned to the charts and were remixed by DJ Hell with their cult track `Eingeschlossen' during the pandemic. They have been working on new songs with new frontwoman Nina H. since 2022, which led to `Nitroglycerin' at the end of 2024 and is now taking shape in the fifth full nothing opus. With `Tiefschwarz', the band returns to the darkest roots of their soundscapes, harking back to tracks such as `Eingeschlossen', `Tango 2000' and `Schwarze Gedanken' or the aforementioned Belfegore (`All That I Wanted'). A sound carried by Clauss' characteristic playing and his intense guitar riffs, garnished with hypnotic beats and thundering drums, laid on a foundation of bass and electronics. The lyrics - sometimes direct, sometimes poetic, sometimes harsh, sometimes gentle - take the listener on a journey through the darker side of life, melancholic, powerful, and unembellished. Singles `Kugel durch den Kopf' and `Alien', the opener `Maschine oder Mensch' and the closing title track are just four of 10 strong new songs. Nothing unfolds a sonic density that will captivate both existing admirers and new fans. The stringent musical concept is further ennobled by the sleeve artwork licensed from Katharina Sieverding: the globally successful visual artist and photographer from Düsseldorf released a picture from her series `Die Sonne Um Mitternacht Schauen' for `Tiefschwarz', which makes up the cover artwork in its entirety and without superimposed fonts. The CD comes as a 4-panel digipak with a 12-page booklet, the LP in gatefold cover with a printed inner sleeve. The classic black vinyl comes in 180g, the transparent blue vinyl is 140g.
