On their second full length album, "Ltd. Form", SILK FLOWERS has managed to both develop and further diversify their sound while embracing high end production values with help from underground crossover noise artist/Mark Ronson collaborator, MNDR. Although some underground synth bands might implode under these circumstances, SILK FLOWERS has managed to take full advantage, adding much greater breadth, warmth and complexity to their songs without sacrifi cing any of their raw, idiosyncratic charm. Broken into both synth-strumental and vocal cold/synth tracks, "Ltd. Form" displays the band's ability to make hybrid music containing both "high" and "low" elements: Underground analog sounds, early synthpop, italo disco, noise, passages reminiscent of pop hits from late Human League to the Fame soundtrack, plus deeply personal and dark lyrics delivered in an unbelievably low pop croon. Vocals are delightfully reminiscent of other singers in the genre but combined with the audaciously deadpan poetry of Scott Walker and the confessional humor of Morrissey. In the world of SILK FLOWERS all is intentional, all is permitted, nothing is sacred, but it still manages to be sincere. Their effortless, unique and deliciously awkward combination of high and low, humor and dead seriousness creates a unique tension. It is this tension that allows SILK FLOWERS to shine in a musical landscape filled with so much style without much investment.
